The OptCom Group, in collaboration with Southampton University, the Links Foundation and CISCO Photonics, has been awarded a prestigious Post-Deadline paper presentation at ECOC 2019 (PD.1.5). The paper reports on a breakthrough and record-setting transmission experiment on the revolutionary “hollow-core” fiber that Optoelectronics Research Center of Southampton has recently fabricated. This fiber holds the promise for increasing the capacity vs. standard fiber by a factor of up to ten, or more. The paper will be presented by Pierluigi Poggiolini on Thursday, Sept. 26th.
On Wednesday Sept. 25th, Pierluigi Poggiolini presented a paper (W.1.D.3) at ECOC 2019 in Dublin on a real-time fiber non-linearity model which can evaluate the transmissive performance of an entire optical network in a fraction of a second, with very high accuracy, enabling physical-layer-aware management and control of the network. The paper was co-authored by researchers from the OptCom Group and from CISCO Systems. Click below or on "read more" to download the presentation.
OptCom presented on Tuesday Sept. 25th a talk at ECOC 2018 regarding on fiber non-linearity modeling at transmission rates going from 8 GBaud up to 512 GBaud, also using Gaussian-shaped constellations, and MI/GMI as performance parameter. This topic is of great significance for the study, design and management of ultra-high-speed internet-backbone optical networks.
